Night 4 of X Avant XX, curated by Keisha Bell, reimagines MG’s story through overlooked jazz legacies, featuring Cuban pianist Aruán Ortiz and trumpeter Milena Casado, whose boundary-crossing works fuse Afro-Caribbean traditions, jazz, and free improvisation while staying deeply rooted in the spirit of Black American music.
Night 3 of X Avant XX, curated by David Dacks, weaves past and present into new resonances with a first-time collaboration between guitarist Colin Fisher and gayageum virtuoso Roa Lee, alongside composer-performer Yaz Lancaster, celebrating the release of their new album AFTER with an immersive set of violin, voice, and electronics.
Night 2 of X Avant XX, curated by Sanjeet Takhar, spotlights the uncompromising DIY spirit with a global edge, featuring Nyege Nyege’s boundary-pushing vision, the breakneck Singeli sounds of Sisso & Maiko, and Violence Gratuite’s pulsing blend of techno, trap, and French pop, alongside opening sets curated by Toronto’s experimental magazine The Vermin.
