DESCRIPTION:918 Bathurst is announcing our new Rush Rehearsals Rentals program.  Each month\, 918 Bathurst will release a calendar of dates and times in that month during which 918’s Great Hall and Gallery will be available to rent for $17/hour.  \nThis special rate is only valid for the times specified\, and must be booked using the Rush Rehearsals Rentals calendar.  Please note that bookings made through the online calendar are only booking requests and are not confirmed until bookings have been processed and contracted by the 918 Bathurst office.

DESCRIPTION:November 20 / 6:00-9:00pm / Location: 918 Bathurst \n$45\, PWYC Option (Suggested Donation $15-$30) / Please RSVP at https://bit.ly/33RzdeF \n*All proceeds from this event will be put towards the development of the Akin Studio Rent Relief Fund\, providing artists short term financial aid towards their studio rent in unexpected situations or times of financial instability. \nEvent Description:\nThis session uses the anti-oppressive framework and an intersectional approach to explore anti-Black racism within a Canadian cultural context. Internalized\, interpersonal and institutional manifestations of anti-Black racism are contextualized through the lens of intergenerational trauma\, systemic barriers and monolithic narratives. The impact of anti-Black racism\, as it interacts with other sites of oppression is explored through case studies\, personal reflections\, quantitative and qualitative data. Systemic power structures and their impact on the spiritual\, emotional\, physical\, financial and mental well being of Black communities as well as profound institutional inequities will be introduced and contextualized. Participants will critique and problematize current models for allyship and community engagement as well as explore interpersonal interventions and systemic transformations that cultivate liberation. \nAbout the Presenter:\nRania El Mugammar is a Sudanese Canadian\, Artist\, Arts Educator\, Equity\, Anti-oppression\, Liberation and Meaningful Inclusion Educator & Consultant\, performer\, speaker and published writer. \nRania is an experienced anti-oppression\, equity\, inclusion and liberation educator and consultant who is unflinchingly committed to decolonization and freedom as the ultimate goals of her work. She has worked extensively with contemporary arts institutions\, STEM based enterprises\, media organization\, GBV advocacy\, health initiatives\, educational institutions and community/grassroots spaces.
