SUMMARY:Fan Wu's Album Launch: Touch The Ten Thousand Things without Dependency LP
DESCRIPTION:Album launch for Fan Wu’s touch The Ten Thousand Things without dependency LP\, featuring a three-ring “stacked solos” drone/poetry continuum by Fan @abolishedbauble \, Matt @princenifty (Prince Nifty) and Victoria @vicsanointedfavourites (New Chance). The performance will take place Thursday May 2nd\, 8pm. \nThe album was created in Vernon two winters ago with a rotating host of collaborators. It is a document of an early process experimenting with infusing Daoist cosmologies into our Western milieu. We cultivate a space of contemplation under the shade of Zhuangzi’s “useless tree” where we channel the full force of our protoplasmic shapeshift. \nGet tickets here! \n  \n

SUMMARY:Thin Edge Presents: ChamberDestroy (Co-presented by Music Gallery)
DESCRIPTION:About: \nChamberDestroy is co-produced by The Music Gallery and connects contemporary music ensembles from two of Canada’s largest cultural centres with one common artistic goal. Ensemble Paramirabo-EP (Montreal) and Thin Edge New Music Collective – TENMC (Tkarón:to/Toronto) reunite on the heels of a highly successful joint touring/recording project (2015 and 2018)\, to premiere Nicole Lizée’s ChamberVania (AKA ChamberDestroy\, FKA ChamberKill) for double sextet\, soundtrack and video and Datura for double sextet and video by Yaz Lancaster (USA) alongside\, Louis Andriessen’s seminal Workers Union and Julius Eastman’s Joy Boy for unspecified ensemble. \nMontreal-based Nicole Lizée is one of Canada’s most sought after and imaginative composers. Her instantly recognizable musical language ingeniously marries elements of contemporary music with technology\, popular culture and visuals. Nicole’s rhythmically propulsive new work explores ephemera\, idioms\, and connotations of early video game culture. The 8-bit world infiltrates the chamber ensemble world as instruments assume 8-bit and pixelated characteristics. Sections of the work are duel/battle-based music: ensemble vs ensemble. Puzzles need to be completed\, levels are attained\, 2D and 3D music are both expressed on screen via graphics and in the ensemble writing and alterations to instruments. The ensembles performs on custom-made instruments to evoke the infiltration through the 4th/5th wall into the chamber music world. \nYaz Lancaster is a transdisciplinary artist based in NYC. They are most interested in practices aligned with relational aesthetics & the everyday; fragments & collage; and liberatory politics. Their work is presented in many different mediums & collaborative projects\, and often reckons with specific influences ranging from politics of identity & liberation to natural phenomena and poetics. \nLouis Andriessen’s experimental compositional style developed as a rebellion against postwar serialist traditions prevalent in Europe during his formative years. Worker’s Union (1975) is an indeterminate piece ‘for any loud sounding group of instruments’. Driven by aggressive\, machine-like rhythmic precision\, Andriessen believes that “only in the case that every player plays with such an intention that his part is an essential one\, will the work succeed; just as in the political work.” TENMC and EP are revisiting this powerful composition\, which featured prominently on their joint album ‘Raging Against the Machine’ (2015 Redshift Records)\, in honour of Andriessen’s recent passing. \nJoy Boy (1974) by visionary American minimalist composer/performer Julius Eastman\, is written for open instrumentation\, and includes elements of improvisation within the framework of a set harmonic structure. Joy Boy’s shimmering harmonic textures carry listeners and performers alike along for an ecstatic sonic journey. \nDoors: 7:30pm\nShow Starts: 8:00pm \nTickets: General $25\,PWYCA $10 +\, Music Gallery Members $10 \nBuy Tickets here! \n

SUMMARY:What Is: Spirituality As Connection

SUMMARY:Rhythms of Renewal: Cacao ceremony\, Ecstatic Dance and Soundbath
DESCRIPTION:Rhythms of Renewal: Cacao ceremony\, Ecstatic Dance and Soundbath \nJoin us for an extraordinary evening of spiritual rejuvenation as we embark on a transformative odyssey of self-discovery and renewal. Immerse yourself in the sacred rhythms of the universe through a harmonious blend of ancient practices and modern expressions. \nUnder the gentle guidance of nature’s wisdom\, we’ll explore the profound healing properties of the cacao tree\, unlocking the secrets of heart-opening medicine. With intentions and under beautiful guidance\, you will be invited to partake in a mindfull cacao drinking ritual. \nSurrender to the pulsating rhythms of ecstatic music\, as they intertwine with the innate beats of your own body\, leading you to a state of blissful alignment and free movement. \nFinally\, allow yourself to drift into the soothing embrace of a transcendent soundbath\, where each note reverberates through your being\, inviting you to sink deeper into the rhythm of your heart. \n🍫 Cacao Ceremony with Josii Yakecan (Brazil) \nExperience the profound wisdom of cacao as Josii\, a multiverse artist and seasoned guide\, leads us through a heart-opening cacao ceremony. Drawing inspiration from the natural world\, Josii’s medicine music resonates with the soul\, empowering us to heal and awaken through the power of sound and voice. \nJosii Yakecan is a wild seed from Brazil\, singer and composer of medicine music\, explorer of voice and sounds. She expresses her vision and experiences through music\, in rituals and ceremonies. \nLover of nature\, she seeks her greatest source of inspiration in it. \nJosii became known worldwide for her song Jurema Oh Jurema which has been a powerful song in the world of Healing Music and the growing spiritual movement for almost 10 years now. Josii’s music has taken her around the world with her performances and ceremonies that provide a sacred\, intimate and heart-warming space for all in attendance. This artist sings the song of the spirit and embodies the stories she tells\, expressing music that reverberates deep within the heart\, wisdom and soul. To experience the essence of this stunning singer is to be taken on a musical journey that takes us back to the core of our own inner existence. \nJosii’s cacao ceremony is a deeply immersive experience\, beginning with a communal gathering in a sacred space where participants are welcomed with warmth and reverence. As the ceremonial-grade cacao is prepared and served\, Josii infuses the atmosphere with her soul-stirring live musical performance\, drawing inspiration from her multiverse artistry and the natural world. Her melodic prayers and sacred songs intertwine with the aroma of the cacao\, elevating the ceremony to a transcendent level of spiritual connection. Participants are invited to sip the cacao mindfully\, allowing its healing properties to open their hearts and minds. Guided by Josii’s ethereal melodies\, they embark on a journey of self-discovery\, delving into their emotions\, intentions\, and inner wisdom. Through meditative practices and shared reflections\, the ceremony fosters a sense of unity and healing within the group. As the ceremony draws to a close\, Josii’s music carries messages of gratitude and blessings\, leaving participants uplifted\, inspired\, and deeply connected to themselves and the world around them. \n💃 Ecstatic Dance with DJ Shamashka \nFeel the pulse of the earth beneath your feet as DJ Shamashka takes us on a musical journey infused with the sounds of native instruments and the whispers of nature. Masha Andreeva\, AKA DJ Shamashka\, is one of the organizers behind Anahata Open Air Festival ( www.anahata.ca) and her sets are crafted as prayers for the heart to open and for healing to flow\, inviting us to dance with abandon and reconnect with the essence of our being. \nMasha is a certified yoga instructor\, facilitator of shamanic ceremonies and retreats and a passionate mindfulness propagator. She if currently finishing her diploma in art theraoy and undergoing registration as a registered psychotherapist. \nMasha also has studied music as medicine in Canada and in Peru and continues to offer sound circles and soundbaths as part of Project Mariri. \nEcstatic dance is a form of freeform movement and self-expression\, typically practiced in a group setting. Participants gather in a safe and supportive environment\, often in a dimly lit space with uplifting music. Unlike traditional dance forms\, ecstatic dance has no set choreography or structure\, allowing individuals to move freely and authentically according to their own inner rhythms and emotions. The focus is on connecting with the body\, letting go of inhibitions\, and expressing oneself without judgment. Ecstatic dance sessions often incorporate elements of meditation\, breathwork\, and guided movement to facilitate a deeper connection to oneself and the collective energy of the group. \n🎶 Soundbath by Project Mariri \nSurrender to the healing vibrations of sound as Project Mariri envelops you in a cocoon of sonic bliss. Project Mariri is a collaboration between Mariya Garnet and Masha Andreeeva based on their longstanding dedication to using music as medicine. \nTheir experience with traditional healing modalities of South and North America and Eurasia informs their shared values that nature is sacred and that we are all interconnected in the web of life on Mother Earth. \nMasha and Mariya are integrating years of traditional apprenticeship with formal western education in psychology and psychotherapy to create safe space filled with healing sounds for groups and individuals to journey through soundscapes. \n”Mariri” means Force of Nature/Forest for Indigenous people of the Amazon. We feel that the name strongly relates to our belief that nature is sacred and we are part of it. “Mariri” is also a tribute to our plant medicine work. \nA sound bath is a meditative experience where participants lie down and are immersed in sound vibrations created by various instruments such as crystal singing bowls\, gongs\, chimes\, and drums. The sounds are played in a way that promotes relaxation\, stress reduction\, and a sense of inner peace. Participants often close their eyes and focus on the sounds\, allowing them to enter a deep state of relaxation and heightened awareness. Sound baths are believed to have therapeutic effects on the body and mind\, promoting healing\, balance\, and harmony. \nhttps://www.projectmariri.com/
