DESCRIPTION:For the final Emergents show of the year\, we delve into the expressive energy of freely improvised sound. \nMohkinstsis/Calgary-based multi-instrumentalist\, improviser\, composer and producer Jairus Sharif creates music that deals with healing\, self-understanding\, and personal freedom\, forging connections between hip-hop abstraction\, mysticism\, and outsider jazz. Following the fall 2022 release of his latest album Water & Tools\, Sharif will join the Music Gallery for an improvised set alongside Edmonton-based fellow sonic explorer Mustafa Rafiq\, navigating themes generated by the duo. \nOpening the evening are local improvisers Marilyn Yogarajah\, Subsume\, and Adrian Russouw\, performing together as a trio for the very first time in a freely-improvised set for trumpet\, bass\, and live electronics.” \nThe event is all ages and you can purchase tickets here.
