BFSA’s Tailoring Black Style Fashion show explores the purpose and power of Black fashion beyond the constraints of colonial and white gaze ideals. Inspired by the MET Gala’s 2025 exhibition, this show critiques how Black style has been historically reshaped to align with Eurocentric norms, questioning who is tailoring and why.
We are inviting five designers (Max Twum-Antwi, Uwadiunor Ife, Mufaro, Navern Nash-Longshaw, and Tony Digba) to respond to these provocations and redefine what tailoring Black style means to them. By highlighting Black culture beyond assimilation, this show affirms that Black creativity is limitless, untamed, and unapologetically self-defined.
