The Dark Room: a crowd-sourced, group exhibition celebrating alternative process and analog photography in the digital age
CALL FOR ARTISTS: COMING SOON!
918 Bathurst Centre for Culture, Arts, Media, and Education will be seeking submissions for our third annual The Dark Room group exhibition. The Dark Room is a forum to showcase the many processes of analog and alternative process photography, and the exciting work these methods produce. The Dark Room will take place during CONTACT 2014.
Photographers working in analog and/or alternatives to digital photographic processes are invited to submit their work. Examples of alternative processes include: 35mm or other film negatives, pinhole, collodion/wet plate, silver gelatin, platinum prints, camera obscura, lomography, photograms, or other experimental uses of the wet/dark room experience.
The exhibition consists of two distinct components: In late April, we will display all initially accepted submissions at Gallery 918 in a public showcase and celebration. On that day, both the voting public and our invited jury will select the pieces that will be shown during our official two-week exhibition in May. Artists selected for the official two-week exhibition will be eligible for awards provided by our sponsors and partners. Last year’s prizes included gallery membership, portfolio review, and cash prizes.
Past juries have included representatives of 918 Bathurst Centre, Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival, Gallery 44 Centre for Contemporary Photography, Bau-Xi Photo, AKIN Collective, OCADU Student Gallery, Lonsdale Gallery, and others from the Toronto arts community.
Works in The Dark Room may be for sale and a 20% commission will apply.
