Good Kind productions, batuki music society and polyphonic ground presents: Haiba + Mayrem tollar & kamancello

June 23, 2018

A co-presentation of Good Kind Productions and Batuki Music Society – members of diverse-music presenter-collective Polyphonic Ground – this special evening features a double-bill of boundary- and border-crossing music.

Witness the premiere of 40-Day Road, which refers to the nearly 1000-year-old caravan route connecting Sudan and Egypt: The band is a collaboration between Sudanese oud player/vocalist Abdel “Haiba” Wahab and Egpytian qanun player/vocalist Maryem Tollar alongside Sudanese musicians Tarig Shanga (bongos), Hamid Ismail (bass) and Misara Gandhi (accordion).

Also appearing is another unique collaboration uniting seemingly disparate music and traditions: Kamancello features acclaimed musicians Shahriyar Jamshidi and Raphael Weinroth-Browne, and brings together the Kurdish kamanche (four-stringed spiked fiddle) with the cello through playful and entrancing
improvisation.
