Art 09 – International Art Fair – Panel Discussion led by Li Koo & Stanzie Tooth

Posted on: Saturday, June 6th, 2009

International Art Fair 2009: June 12-14, 2009 Metro Convention Centre

Art2009 Panel Discussion: Sat. June 13 3:30pm

Toronto is one of the most culturally diverse cities in the world. In a society of advanced communication, concepts of borders, both geographical and cultural are being redefined. What will this mean for the identity of artists in Toronto and abroad? Through this panel discussion our aim is to address ideas of identity, internationalism, communication and technology as it relates to art and culture by sourcing the opinions of experts from a variety of backgrounds and experiences.

Art 2009 is unique to Toronto as it is hosting Canadian artists along side international artists who have been connected to the fair through their national embassies. More than just another commercial art fair, Art 2009 was created in the hopes of bridging the gap between Canadian and international artists to create an expressive and affordable forum for them to exhibit together and share ideas.

In this spirit of exchange, a discussion panel is being organized to address current issues that are affecting artists globally. Ideas of identity, internationalism and multiculturalism, communication and technology will be discussed as it relates to art and culture by drawing upon the opinions of arts professionals from a variety of backgrounds, experiences and geographic locations. The lecture will be moderated and led by Li Koo, Director of 918 Bathurst Culture, Arts, Media & Education Centre and Stanzie Tooth, Artist and Curator for Lonsdale Gallery.
